Pharrell Says He’s Unbothered by Drake’s Disses After the OVO Rapper Bought His Jewelry

Drake's ongoing jabs at Pharrell have been a notable part of his recent music, especially with lyrics on tracks like “Meltdown” and “Family Matters” where he references “melting down” Pharrell’s chains—a move that stirred conversations about the two stars’ dynamic. Drake’s flaunt of Pharrell’s iconic $2 million N.E.R.D. necklace in his “Jumbotron S--t Poppin” music video added a public layer to this simmering rivalry. Despite the gestures, Pharrell has maintained a calm and unbothered response. In an interview with GQ upon receiving the title of Designer of the Year for 2024, he shared his perspective, making it clear that he’s unaffected by Drake’s actions.

Reflecting on Drake’s purchase of his auctioned jewelry, Pharrell interpreted it as a nod to his legacy. “He’s a fan of music… a fan of the history of what it is, and I happen to be a part of that,” Pharrell said, noting the jewelry’s symbolic value in music history rather than taking offense at its repurposing. When asked directly about the disses, Pharrell was brief, replying, “It didn’t,” indicating his lack of reaction.

As the Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Men’s, Pharrell explained his decision to let go of the jewelry in a broader sense. The auction, held on Joopiter, was about more than just offloading items—it represented a personal detachment from material symbols and memories. “When you let things go, a huge part of it is actually letting go,” he shared, viewing it as a form of release rather than something to be protective over.

The lyrics between Drake and Pharrell have brought Kendrick Lamar into the mix as well. Lamar voiced support for Pharrell on his track “Euphoria,” referencing their feud and throwing shade back at Drake: “I don’t like you poppin’ s--t at Pharrell… let me see you push a T.” In response, Drake fired back on “Family Matters,” challenging Kendrick to “come get [Pharrell’s] legacy out of my house,” keeping the competitive energy alive.

This exchange of lines reflects a layered rivalry, but for Pharrell, the focus remains on growth and detachment. Drake’s display of the jewelry may be seen as a bold move, but Pharrell seems content to stay removed from the drama, choosing instead to see his legacy appreciated—even if in unexpected ways.
